Between Baraggia and Bessa by bicycle
48 A loop that touches on two naturalistic gems of the Biella region: the Baragge Nature Reserve and the Bessa Nature Reserve.
With this loop, which takes place mainly on secondary roads or dirt tracks, we start from Cavaglià to reach the villages of Dorzano and Salussola, and head towards Verrone: before entering the center we pass the perimeter of the Baragge Nature Reserve, with its particular landscape reminiscent of the African Savannah.
From Verrone we continue through country roads to Sandigliano and Borriana, from where, having crossed a bridge over the Elvo stream, we enter the woods of the Bessa Nature Reserve, a place shaped by nature and history since the ice ages. In fact, we find ourselves in a unique landscape: we are climbing the slopes of the eastern side of the Serra Morenica of Ivrea, an ancient hill formed by the Baltese glacier, where the ancient Romans built gold mines, transforming the landscape, of which the gigantic piles of stones remain, giving the Park an almost “lunar” atmosphere.
