From Sordevolo to Bagneri, discovering the sculptures of Cecilia Martin Birsa

16 A pleasant hike that connects Sordevolo, a village famous for the Passion Play, a popular theater performance, to Bagneri, a small village chosen by sculptor Cecilia Martin Birsa as the right place to create her works in stream stone.

From the church square in Sordevolo we continue uphill along Via Bona, leave the village along Via Prera, and at the end of the street we take the path that goes straight ahead following the Elvo canyoning route markers. We descend along a path that reaches the Elvo stream, which we cross on the Alpini bridge. We climb back up the opposite slope into a beautiful chestnut forest, where we occasionally encounter some old alpine huts. We reach the asphalt road, walk along it for a few hundred meters and turn right in the direction of Bagneri, following the Vivo path, along which we can admire the works of Cecilia Martin Birsa, a local artist of international renown who specializes in sculptures with stream stones. We visit the ancient village of Bagneri, which has been completely recovered thanks to the patient work of a local association. We retrace our steps, descending along the path with red and white via markings, until we reach the wide dirt road that descends toward Muzzano. We leave the road to take the path that descends back to the Elvo valley following the sign for the Ambrosetti bridge. We follow the steep mule track that descends to the old bridge, dating back to 1840, and climb up the opposite side to return to the historic center of Sordevolo.
