On the tracks of transhumance: through valleys, mountain pastures, and Alpine views

SI-3 Steep climbs, technical single tracks, and wild landscapes: a challenging route for experienced bikers to discover the Valle cervo and Monte Casto.

The route starts in Andorno Micca and, after briefly passing through the village centre, quickly leaves the asphalt behind to immerse you in woodland trails leading to Locato Superiore, offering an immediate sense of connection with nature and silence.

The path alternates between dirt tracks and quiet secondary roads, crossing Callabiana, a village made famous for the Giro d’Italia.
A little further on, you reach Locanda Erbavoglio, an ideal spot for a short, refreshing break.

A scenic detour leads you to the Camandona Dam, a small lake nestled among the mountains, before arriving at the Mazzucco Sanctuary, a spiritual place deep in the woods.

Here begins one of the most fascinating sections of the route: the Strada della Transumanza, an ancient trail once used by shepherds to reach the high pastures, guiding you to Bocchetto Sessera, gateway to the Oasi Zegna.
The panorama opens up over the Biellese mountains and the vast, wild Valsessera, offering one of the most evocative moments of the entire itinerary.

A technical yet rewarding descent then begins, following a single track through the forests of Monte Casto, one of the most beloved mountain biking areas in the region, known for its trails immersed in nature.

The trail leads you down to the paved road at Cascina degli Eremiti, from where another path gently descends back towards Andorno Micca, completing a perfect loop of challenging climbs, scenic descents, local history, and breathtaking landscapes.

This is an experience recommended for those who love true mountain biking, the slow rhythm of the mountains, and trails that tell the story of the land step by step – or rather, pedal by pedal.
