Monte Casto

31 Challenging itinerary, characterized by steep climbs at times for real climbers but rewarded by fun downhill trails and wonderful views.

Depart Biella in Piazza Martiri Della Libertà, which we will leave to take Via Cavour; then right onto Via Cesare Battisti, we will continue straight on to the traffic lights where we will turn left and then, at the traffic circle, take the third exit onto Via Tollegno. At the fork we will turn right and then repeat at the next fork; taking Via Antonio Gramsci where we will continue for 1 km and then turn first right and then immediately left onto Via Arrigo Craveia. We will cross a pedestrian bridge and bending to the left we will continue on a false-flat path and, skirting the Cervo stream, it will take us to a paved road. We will continue uphill until we come to a hairpin bend to the right where we will go straight, leaving the main road to join a secondary road that, after a short climb, will cross wide meadows. Turning right at its end will take us to Via Mario Coletta. At the crossroads we will turn left, continue straight ahead for 1.8 km until we reach a small square on our right, where we will turn uphill onto Via Berardino Ferrari in the direction of Case Faletti. After 1.8 Km of arduous ascent, on our left, we will see a road closed to traffic with a bar: from here we will continue uphill for 1.4 km on the main road until we come to a hairpin bend on the left where we will go straight until we reach a hut where on its left we will find a steep ramp that will take us to the farm road that we will follow. We will then turn right and after 1 km passing another bar, we will face the last very steep ramp that will take us to Pratetto. Turning downhill and walking for 300 meters we will find on our left a path that, following it to the end, will take us to a large dirt parking lot. From here we will continue past a bar and past an equipped area, after 1 km we will continue downhill on a farm road for another km until we cross another one that we will take to the left. After 500 meters turn left again, to then enter a path that will take us to the hamlet “Trabbia”. From here we will go straight downhill until we pass behind a small church and, coming out on the main road, we will turn right and continue for 1.3 km until the next crossroads when on our left (near a chapel), we will see a path. Following it straight ahead will take us to the village of “Selve Marcone.” Here we will return to the main road, turn left and after 500 meters we will leave it to enter the path that we will find on our right. Going straight ahead it will take us to its end in the hamlet “Colma” where we will turn right and after 100 meters we will make a downhill turn always on the same side on a cobblestone road and after a few meters we will turn left. Still going downhill first on a path and then on a farm road, to end on asphalt we will come to a crossroads where we will turn right onto via Bellavista. Finally continuing straight ahead, we will find a traffic circle where we will take the third exit and past the center of Tollegno, we will take the direction of Biella finding our starting point again.
